Lochalsh Access Panel
Minutes of
meeting at Victoria Cottage, Portree
Tuesday 20th
June 2006
10.30 am
Present:
Joan Turkington, Julia
Rudram, Mike Taylor, Colin Hutchings, Peter Kinloch, Alex Crockett,
John Holt, Liz MacLeod.
- Apologies:
Una MacLeod, Chantal
MacLeod, Nora Warby, Patsy MacDonald, Kathleen & Colin McCormack,
Marjorie Jagger.
- Minutes:
Item
4.4 Post Office in Kyle – this should have read that there is no post
box at present and the parking facility in front does not have a disabled
parking sign. The minutes were otherwise approved by Alex Crockett and
seconded by John Holt as being a true record.
- Matters Arising:
- Disability toilet
at Armadale Castle. Julia and Liz will check this out when in Sleat
on 27th June
- Planning meeting
– 10 plans were discussed and letters and guidelines will be sent
to the applicants
- Portree Regeneration
Plan – Colin produced a letter from Lochalsh & Skye Housing Association
detailing their commitment to the construction of safe and accessible
paths between homes in the new housing development at Home Farm. They
stated, however, that their remit didn’t include pathways around the
perimeters and the land for this had been transferred to Highland Council
who would in turn transfer it to a suitable community initiative group.
- Finance – no
further news on insurance policy.
- Royal Bank of
Scotland, Portree - complete
- Funding – nothing
further to report
- No further word
on the suggested meeting in The Western Isles.
- Hand held computer
– Julia had details of the computer that helps with a disability access
audit by taking photos and measurements and producing the results with
appropriate software. Julia will make further enquiries before purchase.
- Portree toilets:
A reply was received from Harold Yates of Highland Council stating that
Portree is in line to get new refurbished and accessible toilets.
- We received the
refurbished computer from Highland Council and as there were no other
requests for it, Joan Turkington has taken it on loan.
- Kyle Post Office
– ongoing
- ID badges –
new ID badges have been made for those committee members who didn’t
have one.
- Portree Chemist
shop – ongoing.
- Sabhal Mòr Ostaig
– Julia and Liz will be attending their ‘Celebrating Diversity’
Day on 27th June.
- New Business:
- SATA – a request
had been received from the Scottish Accessible Transport Alliance for
our membership. As the cost per year is only £10, the committee decided
that as accessible transport is a problem then it was worth joining.
- Nick McBain of
SDEF has requested a meeting with committee members on Friday 23rd
June on his visit to Skye. Julia and Mike said that they would be available.
- A request had
been received from service users at Tigh na Drochaid to have the dropped
kerb below the main building re-instated. After installing a new path
the kerb had been replaced by a normal one. A letter will be sent to
Highland Council.
